Description: The High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on board the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) began taking its first science orbit images on Friday, September 29, 2006. The science orbit was obtained after seven months of aerobraking brought MRO eight times closer to the planet than the orbit in March 2006. The new images are nearly ten times higher resolution than the first test images of Mars taken back. In many of them, objects less than 1 meter (less than 3 feet) can be resolved.
