Hello,

Let me know if you would like to contribute and/or if you have any suggestions for this weekly update on h+ activities.

Meetings

Last week we listened to Stuart Hameroff, MD discuss Quantum Biology: Why life is not like tinker toys and then went out to dinner for good food and great conversation.

We also had a visit from nerdcore rapper Nomad and his friends, watched Ghost in the Shell, and had an overall great time talking about transhumanism and other topics. (This link to Nomad's MySpace page may not be suitable for work.)

This week John Schloendorn is visiting to tell us about the various Methuselah Foundation projects that could one day lead to radical human life extension.

Zerowave also commented on Dr. Hameroff's presentation and I added a link to a webpage with links to papers about the philosophy of consciousness, including the "hard problem".

Outreach

The Transhumanist Network (a new social network for tranhumanists) continues to see new faces and new content, including some very interesting videos.

Science and Technology

A potentially huge and successful application of stem cell technology was announced this week, and a new nanogenerator made waves:

Hoax or new physics? After an "accidental" free energy discovery three years ago, the Irish company Steorn has abandoned their previous business to fund R&D on their "orbo" product. They are refusing to accept outside funding, have watched their financial losses mount, and have invited a "jury" of scientists to "rule" on the legitimacy of their discovery. An update on the progress of the 12-panel jury is expected on Friday.
