[Back to Documents]

Hello,

I think a weekly update on h+ activities might be useful. Let me know if you would like to contribute and/or if you have any suggestions.

Meetings

Last week we watched "What the Bleep!? Down the Rabbit Hole" with frequent pausing for mostly critical feedback.

One of the experts interviewed in the documentary is our guest speaker at this week's h+ meeting: Stuart Hameroff, MD. He will be discussing quantum mechanics as applied to biology, a nascent scientific field of inquiry called quantum biology.

Website

I redesigned the website to give it a cleaner look and to emphasize transhumanist-related topics, including Artificial General Intelligence, Nanotechnology, Physical Immortality, Technological Singularity, Transhumanism, and Uploading. Feel free to edit these individual reference pages with new information.

Links

There were a lot of interesting links passed around recently, including:

I use del.icio.us to save headlines that pique my interest. If you are interested in following along, subscribe to the RSS Feed of my del.icio.us entries in your favorite RSS reader (I currently use Google Reader). Feel free to share your own feeds!

Outreach

A transhumanist named Christopher started a Transhumanist Network using Ning (a web service for creating your own social networks). Yesterday, the number of members doubled (thanks in a large part to h+ members who signed up!)

Science and Technology

This week began with two big stories:

The second one is obviously related to rapid progress in medical technologies of interest to transhumanists. The first is also important if the rapid evolution of media technologies is any indication of progress in other fields. Also, the increasing liquidity of media content reflects a speed-up of all content flowing through the Internet. Everyone benefits when information flows with decreasing friction. Today, DRM-free music from pop stars. Tomorrow, open information about transhumanist technologies. Hopefully :)
Thank you,

Richard Leis, Jr.
h+ Adviser
