H+ Tucson Announces Participation in the WTA $25,000 Matching Grant
Tucson, Arizona, December 12, 2007 - H+ Tucson, a transhumanist club at the University of Arizona, is excited to announce its participation in the World Transhumanist Association's $25,000 Matching Grant fundraising campaign.
University of Arizona student and h+ Tucson President Simone Syed is pictured on the campaign website modeling a World Transhumanist Association (WTA) T-shirt with the organization's brand new logo. These T-shirts will be given as donor gifts to those who donate US$100. All funds donated during the campaign, which runs from December 11, 2007 through January 31, 2008, will be matched dollar-for-dollar by sponsors Bill Faloon, co-founder of the Life Extension Foundation and editor of the Life Extension magazine, and Brian Cartmell, serial internet entrepreneur and founder of Cartmell Holdings, LLC. The WTA hopes to raise up to US$50,000 to support their identity and website redesign, an upcoming digital magazine entitled "H+", student outreach programs, and their next Transvision Conference.
Richard Leis, Jr., University of Arizona staff employee and h+ Tucson Adviser said that "Simone has shown by example what I have always meant by our unofficial h+ tagline: 'local clubs, global participation.' I hope we can build on this example in the new year! Local students, staff, and residents are not only learning about and discussing our technological future but actively participating in building a future that is positive and inclusive." Leis has donated US$100 to the fundraising compaign.
Transhumanism is the global social movement and philosophy that embraces the ethical use of current and expected technology advances to enhance human capabilities and mitigate human suffering. Rapid technological progress suggests individuals will soon enjoy "longer, healthier, smarter, and happier lives" as described in the WTA's press release for this fundraising campaign.
