The Joys of CFD

April 12th, 2008 by meawoppl

So I was playing around with the CFD code that I wrote (only by the gracious assistance of Dr. Erdmann) and I decided to model some fluid flows through tissue samples.

This originally came form a random histology sample I came across here.

Liver Original

Liver Cells . . . Really good for getting rid of EtOH and other dangerous toxins.

So then I took the image, painted a map of cell barriers onto it and ran my CFD solver. Heres what I got:

The image matted with contours of pressure(Click for bigger images):

Liver Related P

Then the U and V velocities contour graphs:

U New

V New

Wayyyyy Cool! Next up capillaries!

Rather than going on to capillaries, it would be interesting to see a comparison of normal to cancerous tissue. Would certain types or number of pressure gradients be characteristic of a disease state?
