2009 Humanity+ Summit
Date: Saturday, December 5 - Sunday, December 6, 2009
Location: Eon Reality Center - 39 Parker, Irvine, CA 92618, USA | Google Maps
Description:
Humanity will be radically changed by technology in the (possibly quite near) future.
We foresee the feasibility of redesigning the human condition, including such parameters as the inevitability of aging, limitations on human and artificial intellects, unchosen psychology, suffering, and our confinement to the planet earth.
The possibilities are tremendously broad and exciting — and the H+ Summit will provide a venue to discuss them with like-minded individuals, and hear exciting, presentations by the leaders of the ongoing H+ r/evolution.

Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence (SENS), Fourth Conference
Date: Thursday, September 3 - Monday, September 7, 2009
Location: Queens' College - Silver Street, Cambridge, CB3 9ET, England | Google Maps
Description:
The purpose of the SENS conference series, like all the SENS initiatives (such as the journal Rejuvenation Research), is to expedite the development of truly effective therapies to postpone and treat human aging by tackling it as an engineering problem: not seeking elusive and probably illusory magic bullets, but instead enumerating the accumulating molecular and cellular changes that eventually kill us and identifying ways to repair - to reverse - those changes, rather than merely to slow down their further accumulation.
The meeting will comprise invited talks, short oral presentations of submitted abstracts, and poster sessions. There will be no concurrent sessions. Talks will take place in the Fitzpatrick Lecture Hall. Poster sessions will take place each evening in the conservatory adjacent to the bar, with the customary free alcohol.
The conference will also feature the traditional punting on the Cam, an hour on the Backs for the faint-hearted, and an afternoon or evening trip to Grantchester for the rest of us.

The Singularity Summit 2009
Date: Saturday, October 3 - Sunday, October 4, 2009
Location: 92nd Street Y, Kaufmann Hall - 1395 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10128, USA | Google Maps
Description:
The first Singularity Summit was held at Stanford in 2006 to further understanding and discussion about the Singularity concept and the future of human technological progress. It was founded as a venue for leading thinkers to explore the subject, whether scientist, enthusiast, or skeptic.
Since 2006, the scope of this dialog has expanded dramatically. In 2008, the Singularity entered mainstream consideration. IEEE Spectrum, a sober and mainstream technology publication, issued a special report on the Singularity, and Intel CTO Justin Rattner remarked that "we're making steady progress toward the Singularity" during his keynote to 2,000 people at the Intel Developer Forum. What was once a relatively unknown concept is now being discussed in corporate board rooms.
We invite you to join our extraordinary group of visionaries in business, science, technology, design, and the arts, as our community explores this exciting topic. Your participation offers a world of powerful ideas, a unique networking opportunity, and access to an exclusive directory of your peers.

Ephemerisle
Date: Friday, October 2 - Sunday, October 4, 2009
Location: The lagoon inside Headreach Island Sacramento River Delta, CA USA | Google Maps
Description:
Ephemerisle is the first-ever floating festival of politics, community and art. The festival will launch October 2, 2009 in the Sacramento River Delta in California.
Participants will bring their crafts and their ideas to build an eclectic temporary village of boats, rafts, barges, junks, and other floating structures. A large central platform will be provided as a common space to come together. We'll have music, dance, open mic performances, even classes on how to build your own floating platform... and on Saturday night, a community feast to begin the evening's festivities.
But this is just the beginning: This will not be a spectator event, though there will be plenty to see. Participants will bring their own art, activities, ideas, and love of community and freedom. You will define what Ephemerisle turns out to be.
We aren't content to simply dream of a freer world. We want to live it. Ephemerisle will be the first step.

This is not a "sit around and listen to a few presenters" sort of conference. Instead, we're going to have a bunch of small workshops where groups brainstorm about solutions to some of the challenges we face, research those solutions, and come up w/ recommendations.
